Privacy policy

Effective date: October 20, 2026 · Last updated: October 14, 2026

The short version

  • wizardre (also called wizardre) saves the sentences you capture, and where they came from, into your own Google Drive and your browser.
  • It uses Google’s narrowest Drive permission, drive.file: it can only see files it created or that you open with it. Not the rest of your Drive.
  • We don’t run a server that receives your research. We don’t sell it, share it, use it for ads, or use it to train AI models.
  • You can delete everything and revoke access at any time.

This policy explains what the wizardre Chrome extension and this website (wizardre.app) do with your information. We’ve tried to write it the way we’d want to read it: plainly. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@wizardre.app.

1. Who we are

wizardre is a small, independent project that makes a Chrome extension for online research. In this policy, “wizardre,” “we,” and “us” mean the people who build and operate it. Contact: support@wizardre.app.

2. What wizardre does (its single purpose)

wizardre helps you capture sentences from web pages you’re reading, keep each one with its source, organize them into sections in a side-panel editor, and export the result as a draft. Everything it accesses is used only for that purpose.

3. What data we access and why

DataWhenWhyWhere it goes
Text you choose to capture (a sentence or words you click)Only when you click to captureTo save it to your projectYour browser’s extension storage and your Google Drive
Source details of that page: URL, page title, and, if the page publishes them, author names, publication date, publisher, DOIOnly when you capture from that page, or when you ask wizardre to look up a source linkSo each capture keeps its citation and you can build a bibliographyYour browser’s extension storage and your Google Drive
Projects, sections, notes, and edits you make in the editorWhile you use the editorTo save and sync your workYour browser’s extension storage and your Google Drive
Google Drive files created by wizardre (or that you open with it)When you connect Google Drive and when it syncsTo save, load, and export your projects, including exporting to Google DocsYour Google Drive only
Google sign-in tokens (access/refresh tokens)When you connect Google DriveTo let the extension talk to your Drive on your behalfStored locally in your browser’s extension storage; sent only to Google
Extension settings (for example, theme or capture mode)When you change themTo remember your preferencesYour browser’s extension storage

What we don’t collect: your browsing history, pages you visit but don’t capture from, keystrokes, your Google contacts, your email, or any Drive files wizardre didn’t create and you didn’t open with it. wizardre does not read the rest of the page beyond what’s needed to identify the sentence you clicked and the page’s citation details.

Google user data and the drive.file scope

When you connect Google Drive, wizardre asks Google for one permission: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file. Google describes this as access to “create new Drive files, or modify existing files, that you open with an app or that the user shares with an app.” In practice that means wizardre can create a folder and project files in your Drive, read and update those files, and delete them if you ask it to. It cannot list, open, or change any other file in your Drive.

The beta waitlist (this website)

If you join the beta waitlist, we collect the email address you type in, and use it only to send you beta and launch updates about wizardre. We use [EMAIL_PROVIDER] to store the list and send those emails. You can unsubscribe from any email, or ask us to delete your address, at any time. This website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. [If you add analytics, name the provider and what it collects here.]

4. How we use data

We use the data above only to provide and improve wizardre’s user-facing features: capturing, organizing, syncing, and exporting your research. That’s it.

Limited Use disclosures.

wizardre’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically, we:

5. How it’s stored and shared

Your research is stored in two places, both under your control: your browser’s extension storage on your computer, and your own Google Drive. wizardre does not operate a server that receives or stores your captures, projects, or Drive files. Data travels directly between your browser and Google over encrypted HTTPS connections.

The editor loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives the standard technical details of that request (such as your IP address). No research content is included.

When you ask wizardre to look up citation details for a link, your browser fetches that page directly (just like visiting it) to read its title and metadata. We don’t receive that request.

We share data only: with Google, as needed to save to your Drive; with our email provider, for the waitlist; if required by law; to protect against fraud or abuse; or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, and only after getting your explicit prior consent.

6. Retention and deletion

7. Revoking access

You can disconnect Google Drive from inside wizardre at any time, which also revokes its token with Google. You can also remove wizardre’s access from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. After that, wizardre can no longer reach your Drive. Your existing files stay where they are.

8. Security

All traffic between the extension and Google uses HTTPS. Sign-in tokens are kept in your browser’s extension storage and are only ever sent to Google. We request the narrowest Drive permission available. No system is perfect, so if you think you’ve found a security issue, please email support@wizardre.app.

9. Children

wizardre is meant for students and researchers aged 16 and up, and isn’t directed to children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us their email, contact us and we’ll delete it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, UK, or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or to object to how it’s used. Since your research lives in your own Drive and browser, you can do most of this yourself. For anything we hold (like your waitlist email), email support@wizardre.app and we’ll respond within 30 days.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how wizardre uses your data, we’ll update this page and its date, and for meaningful changes, especially any new use of Google user data, we’ll tell you in the extension and ask for your consent before the new use begins.
