Terms of service
The short version
- wizardre is a beta. It will occasionally be weird. Please keep backups of anything important.
- Your research belongs to you. We don’t claim any rights to it.
- Be nice, follow the law, and respect the copyrights of what you capture.
These terms govern your use of the wizardre Chrome extension (also called wizardre) and this website. By installing the extension or using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use wizardre. [Have these reviewed by a lawyer before launch.]
1. The service
wizardre lets you capture sentences from web pages with their sources, organize them in an editor, save them to your own Google Drive, and export them. Our privacy policy explains how data is handled and is part of these terms.
2. Beta
The beta starts October 20, 2026 and is free. Features may change, break, or disappear, and we may pause or end the beta. The software is provided as-is during this period. We’ll do our best, and we’ll be honest when we mess up.
3. Pricing
The beta is free. If we introduce a paid plan later, we’ll announce the price and terms in advance, and you’ll never be charged without clearly agreeing first.
4. Your account and Google Drive
You use wizardre with your own Google account. You’re responsible for your account and for the files wizardre creates in your Drive. Google’s own terms apply to your use of Google services. You can disconnect at any time (see the privacy policy).
5. Your content
You own the projects, notes, and drafts you create. We don’t claim any ownership and we don’t get a license to use them, because they never reach us. Content you capture from websites belongs to its authors. Please quote responsibly, cite your sources, and respect copyright and your institution’s academic integrity rules.
6. Acceptable use
Don’t use wizardre to break the law, infringe anyone’s rights, scrape sites in violation of their terms, distribute malware or spam, or interfere with the extension or Google’s services. Don’t reverse engineer the extension in order to misuse Google APIs.
7. Citations and accuracy
wizardre tries to pick up citation details automatically, but websites aren’t always tidy. Always check citations before you submit anything. We’re not responsible for grades, reviewer comments, or emails from your advisor.
8. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, wizardre is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, wizardre and its makers won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (during the free beta, that’s $0).
10. Ending things
You can stop using wizardre anytime by uninstalling it and revoking access. We may suspend access if you violate these terms. Your files in Google Drive stay yours either way.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If changes are significant, we’ll let you know in the extension or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use wizardre afterward means you accept the new terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
